  1. FAQ about the Replacement Hospital

Q: Who did you use to do the feasibility study?
A: Health Facilities Group, LLC - Medical Planning and Architecture from Wichita, Kansas.

Q: What will the new hospital cost?
    A: $23,822,546

Q: Where would you build it?
A: Currently we are looking at two locations but are keeping our eyes open for other possible sites. We have taken interest in the Hoeme Property on the south edge of town and the Holterman Property located west of the swimming pool. No site has been permanently chosen at this time.

Q: What would it cost to remodel the current building?
    A: $22,760,780

Q: What would it cost to just fix the problems and not build new or remodel?
    A: $3,528,080

Q: Who would you use to build the hospital?
A: We are currently looking around at different construction companies.

Q: How do you plan on paying for the new hospital?
A: Three Sources: Sales Tax, Property Tax, and the Hospital Apportionment.

Q: What will it cost me in taxes as a Home Owner? As a Business Owner?
A: Please refer to the Finance Plan on our hospital website, Cable Channel 10, or in the Scott County Record.

Q: When are you planning on taking this to vote?
    A: Early Fall.

Q: What is going to be done with the old Hospital building?
A: At this time we are unsure of the plans for the old hospital building. It is owned by the County, but we are hoping for more time to decide the exact plans for the old building after the replacement hospital is built. This decision will be left to the County Commissioner.

Q: What exactly is wrong with the Old Building?
A: It is lacking a fire sprinkler system, it is behind in many health codes, it does not meet ADA standards, there is no tornado shelter for the patients and nursing staff in the event of a tornado, the generator is well beyond its life expectancy, many of the mechanical and electrical equipment is outdated, and is lacking a lot of needed space.

Q: Who should I contact with further questions?
A: Call the hospital at 620-872-5811. You can choose to talk to a Scott County Hospital Administrative Employee or a Hospital Board Member.
